Lists of Categories / Indexes

Categories or Indexes are special lists of entries in separate tables that serve as the entries to the main catalog database. Typically, there will be Category, Sub Category, Brand etc. Visitors will typically browse the storefront via a drill-down of these indexes. The presence of indexes helps you organize the catalog in a more navigable way.

CyberBuild will attempt to classify every product item into these indexes. For example, on the storefront, a visitor will click on a Category, only the sub-categories that have product items under them will appear on the next page.

Collections of these entries should be done at the earliest stage as possible when preparing your catalog data.

Synchronize Relationship between Indexes: Click to re-build the relationship between the various Categories, Sub-categories, Brands etc. using the current contents of the Catalog database.  This brings them back to  synchronization. Use this function if you found certain sub-categories or brands appear empty on the storefront(s) though the entries should have been automatically removed by the program.

Edit Category Entry

To edit a category / index entry, you first select one from top section of the page. This also specifies which index to edit.

In the first text box (could be Category, Brand, etc.) you enter the formal "text" of the index (used to match that specified on the product items). The second box is the Index to the entry. This is an automatic and read-only field.

The third one is the description field, where you enter the user-friendly description for the entry. This is the text that will appear on the storefront. It gives you a change to "explain" the entry. Typically the first and the third text boxes will be the same.

Feature ID: This is a feature page ID associated with the entry. The feature page may be displayed on the storefront(s) when the entry is selected by the visitors. This should be typically set via the "Configure Feature Pages" function.

Criterion: In this box, you specify the search pattern which CyberBuild will use to match a product into this category or index entry. Typically, it will be the same as the first text box. But having an independent field make it flexible to associate a product item with the entry. Internally, CyberBuild first attempt to match the whole field, then it does a pattern match on each word in the field.

For example, for the "Hewlett Packard" brand, this field can be "Hewlett Packard/HP". So if you have a "HP" product item, the program will know to classify it to the "Hewlett Packard".

Order ID: The field defines the Order of Appearance of the entry in the entire list. Smaller values appear on the top. When you add a new entry, it is always appended to the end of the list. You can then use this field to adjust it to the appropriate position in the list.

Add New | Update: You may add new entry or modify the exiting information by filling in the various text boxes on page. Each text box corresponds to a field in the underlying catalog table.  Thus they may vary for different applications. Click on the button to submit the information to the database. CyberBuild will automatically build or update the appropriate keyword indexes and other things to reflect the changes.

Delete: Click on this button to delete permanently the selected entry. Use with extreme certainty. Alternatively, you can hide the entry by removing the Description field on the entry.

You can click on the "Re-organize the List alphabetically" button to do just that (presumably after adding a few new items).

Upload Image File

This section lets you upload image files associated with the item. You must first update the text contents. Then you can either upload an image associated with the category / index. The use of image is optional and the image should be of preview or thumbnail style.

Browse: Click to browse file in your local hard disk to upload. It accepts either the *.jpg or the *.gif format.

Preview: Click to preview the file before uploading.

Current: Click to view current image in use.

Click on the "Upload Selected File" button to start uploading.

File Security Settings on the Web server computer may be an issue here. For the upload to work properly, the destination folder, specified on the Catalog Admin Settings page, must have Read, Write and Modify permissions set for the IUSR_xxx.

If only the administrator to upload images, you can alternatively enable the NT Authentication codes on the custom14.asp page (under the include folder). The upload will then prompt for username and password. Typically, you should enter the pair from your FTP account.
